style="FONT-SIZE: 12px"> specializes in the philosophy of embodied experience,
media theory, and political philosophy. His earlier works include
<I>Parables for the Virtual: Movement, Affect, Sensation</I> ((Duke University
Press, 2002), <I>A User’s Guide to Capitalism and Schizophrenia: Deviations from
Deleuze and Guattari</I> (MIT Press, 1992), and <I>First and Last Emperors: The
Absolute State and the Body of the Despot</I> (with Kenneth Dean; Autonomedia,
1993).<BR> <BR></SPAN><FONT size=4><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 14px"><B>Erin
Manning</B></SPAN></FONT><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 12px"> is a philosopher, visual
artist and dancer. She is assistant professor in Studio Art and Film Studies,
Concordia University. She directs The Sense Lab, an interdisciplinary
research-creation laboratory that promotes the theoretical and artistic
exploration of the sensing body in movement. She has published
<I>Ephemeral Territories: Representing Nation, Home and Identity in Canada</I>
(Minnesota UP, 2003) and <I>Politics of Touch: Sense, Movement, Sovereignty</I>
(Minnesota UP, 2007). A third book entitled <I>Moving the Relation: Force Taking
Form </I>is scheduled to appear out of MIT Press in the fall of

'improvisatory' aspect of embryonic structures, drawing parallels with the logic
of the virtual in the work of Deleuze and the invisible of the visible in the
work of Merleau-Ponty.<BR></SPAN></FONT></FONT><FONT size=5><FONT

color=#0000ff><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 16px">Professor Morris received his M.A.
and Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Toronto. His main interests are
Phenomenology and Existentialism (especially Merleau-Ponty), Hegel and Bergson,
with a focus on the philosophy of the body, mind and nature. His other interests
include 19th century German Idealism, ancient and modern philosophy (esp.
Aristotle, Descartes and Berkeley), and philosophy of biology. His most recent
publications are on: expression and perception in Merleau-Ponty; Hegel on the
understanding; animals and humans, in relation to the problem of mind and body;
method in Husserl, Bergson, and Peirce; and Hegel on the logic of measuring the
body. His book <I>The Sense of Space</I> is published by SUNY Press. He has
recently completed a manuscript entitled <I>Life and the Body in Hegel's Logic:
Understanding Hegel's Science of Logic through Contemporary
Science</I>.<BR></SPAN></FONT></FONT></FONT><FONT
