RESEARCH ASSISTANT NEEDED</pre>

<tt>The Trans/forming Cultures Research Centre in Communication and
Culture at UTS is seeking to appoint a research assistant to work on a
project, 'Sanctuary and Security in Contemporary Australia: Muslim
Women’s Networks 1980 – 2005’ which is funded by an ARC Linkage grant
with the United Muslim Women Association.</tt><br>
<tt> </tt><br>
<tt>SELECTION CRITERIA:</tt><br>
<tt><o:p> </o:p></tt><br>
<tt>The successful candidate will have at least an Honours degree in
Arts or Social Sciences and preferably experience in qualitative
research methods such as open-ended interviewing.<span style=""> </span>Enrolment
in or completion of a research degree an advantage. </tt><br>
<tt><o:p> </o:p></tt><br>
<tt>Essential criteria:</tt><br>
<tt>- Honours degree,</tt><br>
<tt>- Fluent Arabic, </tt><br>
<tt>- Familiarity with database management, </tt><br>
<tt>- Cultural sensitivity demonstrated in experience working with
people of diverse cultural and religious backgrounds,</tt><br>
<tt>- High level organisational and data management skills</tt><br>
<tt><o:p> </o:p></tt><br>
<tt>The position will involve conducting interviews and focus groups
with Muslim women about their experiences and perceptions of security
and belonging in <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Australia</st1:place></st1:country-region>,
supervision of data entry and project management.</tt><br>
<tt><o:p> </o:p></tt><br>
<tt>The position is for one day per week for an initial period of one
year. The position will be paid at Level 6.2 ($35.37 per hour).</tt><br>
