12.0pt'>The Centre for Research on Social Inclusion is seeking to appoint a
research assistant based in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Perth</st1:City></st1:place>
to work on a project ‘Building Neighbourhood Harmony: Strategies for Local
Government’ which is funded by the federal government’s Living in
Harmony initiative. The project is focused on exploring the quality of everyday
interethnic relations among residents of neighbourhoods surrounding the <st1:City
w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Perth</st1:place></st1:City> local government
area of Canning.. The aim of the project is to develop ways to improve
neighbourhood level relations between longer-term residents and newer migrant
communities. <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><span style='font-size:
12.0pt'><o:p> </o:p></span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><span style='font-size:
12.0pt'>The successful candidate will have at least a degree in Arts or Social
Sciences and preferably experience in qualitative research methods such as
open-ended interviewing. Enrolment in research degree an advantage. The
position will involve conducting open ended interviews with local residents
from a range of cultural backgrounds about their local experiences and
perceptions of cultural difference and multiculturalism.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

is for 14 hours per week over a period of 10 weeks. There is some flexibility
