<font size=5 color="#468A4B">Despite the cinema's heritage of
technological and creative diversity, it is Hollywood that has come to
define its dominant forms of production and distribution, its
technological apparatus and its narrative forms. But the hegemony of
Hollywood's modalities of movie making is being increasingly challenged
as the new digital<br>
modalities for the production and presentation of cinematic content are
setting up highly appropriate platforms for the further evolution of the
traditions of independent, experimental cinema. In his presentation
Jeffrey Shaw will discuss the convergent multiplicity of<br>
new techniques of representation and intercommunication and evaluate
specific examples of current art practice that exemplify the emergent
identities of the digitally expanded cinema.<br>

</b></font><font size=5 color="#468A4B">Jeffrey Shaw has been at the
forefront of the practice and<br>
theory of interactive digital cinema for over two decades.<br>
He uses complex technologies to create large-scale immersive<br>
landscapes, fantastic spaces that explore the meeting point<br>
between touch, movement and imagination. Before becoming<br>
Professor of Media Art at UNSW, he was Director of the<br>
Research Institute for Visual Media at ZKM, the Centre for<br>
Art and Media at Karlsruhe in Germany. His current projects<br>
include<i> Conversations</i>,<i> TVisionarium</i> and<i>
Eavesdrop</i>;<br>
his latest book is<i> Future Cinema: The Cinematic<br>
Imaginary after Film</i>.<br><br>
