<br><b>Dr Joseph Reser to present seminar</b>
<p>One of the Northern Territory University’s newest lecturers, Dr Joseph
Reser will present a one-hour seminar at the Faculty of Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander Studies, on Wednesday, 18 September, 2002.
<p>Dr Reser is a principal Research Fellow with the Centre for North Australian
and Asian Research at NTU and will discuss the topic ‘Encountering World
Heritage in Northern Australia - unpackaging, presenting and protecting
cultural and natural heritage values (and implications for impact assessment)
in Kakadu and the Wet Tropics World Heritage area’.
<p>Dr Reser is an environmental and social psychologist with extensive
research experience in North Australia, and was until recently, a Reader
at the University of Durham in the United Kingdom. Before moving to Durham,
Dr Reser was an Associate Professor at James Cook University, Townsville.
<p>His current research focus is on the behaviours, experiences and encounters
which individual visitors have in World Heritage areas in Northern Australia
and the mediating role of site design, infrastructure, and natural and
cultural heritage interpretation to presentation, enjoyment and management
outcomes.
<p>Dr Reser said an important mandate of World Heritage managers is to
present as well as protect and preserve World Heritage areas.
<p>Tomorrow’s public seminar is free and will take place from 12 noon to
1pm, in Building 30, Casuarina Campus.
